Liberia, Clinches their First-Ever UAPSL Cup in Thrilling Final Against Senegal
Aurora, Colorado – In a night of electrifying football and roaring support from fans across the community, Liberia, made history by clinching their first-ever United Africa Premier League - USA (UAPSL) League Cup, defeating the defending champions, Senegal – Galsen Boys, in a nail-biting penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
The UAPSL 2025 Finals, held in Aurora, Colorado, brought together the league’s finest talent and showcased the passion and pride of African football in the diaspora.
The defending champions, Galsen Boys of Senegal, drew first blood in the opening half when their number 2, Baba Diagne, confidently converted a penalty kick. With nerves of steel, Diagne sent the Liberian goalkeeper diving in the wrong direction, giving Senegal a 1-0 lead.
But the Liberians refused to back down. In the second half, Simon Liga of Liberia found the back of the net with a beautiful strike from outside the 18-yard box, bringing the game level and reigniting hope among their hopeful supporters.
With both sides unable to break the deadlock in regular time, the match was decided by a tense penalty shootout, where Liberia emerged victorious, showcasing composure and unity under pressure.
For their hard-fought triumph, Liberia was awarded a $4,000 cash prize, while Senegal received $1,500 as runners-up. Both teams displayed sportsmanship and class, and they are expected to return next season to defend their spots in the UAPSL League.
The 2025 UAPSL Finals will be remembered not only for the thrilling football but also for the growing spirit of community, competition, and culture it continues to foster among African nations in the United States.
